James T. Snyder, Esq., of Greene & Reid, LLP, Syracuse, Awarded the 2003 New York State Bar Association President’s Pro Bono Attorney Service Award

At a Law Day ceremony, the New York State Bar Association awarded its 2003 President’s Pro Bono Attorney Service Award to James T. Snyder, Esq., a partner at Greene & Reid, LLP, Syracuse, New York, for volunteer work he performed on behalf of the poor in the Fifth Judicial District.

As described in the May 2003, New York State Bar Association’s Pro Bono News, Mr. Snyder “was the driving force behind a legal referral clinic to help the Franciscan Northside Ministries expand outreach efforts for the poor (in Syracuse). A partner at Greene & Reid, Jim had an abiding concern for the poor based upon his first job as an attorney at the Legal Aid Society in New York City. Jim convinced many Syracuse attorneys to volunteer their time Thursday nights to give free legal advice to anyone who comes to the Franciscan Legal Referral Clinic.

“Since its inception in 2001, the clinic has helped 500 people. Just as important, it inspired Jim’s nominator, the Onondaga County Bar Association, to create similar programs in other locations. Jim has been a guiding force in that expansion. His efforts have resulted in 42 volunteer lawyers helping 800 moderate- and low-income people and have conveyed a message to the community that attorneys care.”
